Interview(....Continuation of last article "Research the Company "......)

Reading newspapers and magazines regularly is certainly a good habit. They can inform you many facts such as:

  • Any trade union dispute or strike going on aginst the company?
  • How does the company fare in worker complaints and kegal suits?
  • Is the CEO ready to resign?
  • Are that trying to delay unavoidable downsizing?
  • What is the public perception of this company? Is it a philianthropic ethical hero or a greedy dragon?

[Don't take this seriously. It's my personal view.Technology companies Google and Infosys can be put under the first category and Microsoft certainly listed in the later category.]

Seventeen & Cosmo Girl: Both Only $15/year

These information has to do with long term stability and short term satisfaction in that company. Now when we visit the corporate website,we get a hell lot of information such as:

  • location of company head quaters and subsidiaries
  • names of executives and vice presidents
  • names and details of it's main competitor
  • Prospects of the company's products and services
  • Brief history of the company
  • Future development/ research area (like Tata's research in 1 lakh car)
  • Rankings and ratings by independant agencies
  • Press releases (old and new) and fresh media reports about the company.

You may ask me why we should collect such data.My answer is they could be handy to the question

"What do you know about our company?".

You could then comfortably say that

" I know that your company was founded in 1966 in Delhi by Raja Sahebh and your current current CEO is Kiron Chatraborthy.i believe you started out selling parts of bicyles and rickshaws, but today you are the market leaders in motor cycle ,small car and hybrid car category. Now your company is currently number 497 in Fortune Global 500 and you have been in a number of new businesses also. You telecom company has pan india presence and the second mobile phone operator in India.Your recently launched feature rich mobile phones have been a big hit in the market.Since you are voted no 6 as top 50 companies to work for by 'THE BUSINESS TIMESS", these things would make me very proud to be a part of your team. "

So a little bit of research can get you fully loaded for an interview. This is not only plain flattering, but it also tells a lot about you.An employer will find you intelligent, proactive, persuasive and tactical.Tell me a reason why an employer would not want such an employee like that!

(........Completed......)
